Meet Tyler, President of ELM!

Tyler Burt

PRESIDENT / OWNER

To say Tyler has a passion for all things Landscape, is an understatement!

Growing up in the East Valley, Tyler was the only Arizona Native in his family and was able to witness the ever-changing scenery around him. With a strong work ethic instilled by his late father, Jeff Burt, Tyler began his career working as the Advertising Manager for his father’s Commercial & HOA landscape company in 2010. His role involved producing and delivering various promotional materials such as door hangers and flyers to boost sales. Tyler remained in this position until late 2011, when he decided to shift his focus towards education.

After graduating from Higley High School in Gilbert, AZ in 2013, Tyler began working at State Farm Claims. During his time there, he gained valuable insights into insurance policies and legalities. However, in mid-2016, Tyler decided to leave State Farm to pursue a new opportunity with his father.

At the time, Jeff needed a right-hand man to help manage the field, but he had a specific path in mind for Tyler. Jeff introduced Tyler to the world of hard labor as a Crew Laborer, where he learned the basics of landscaping. During this time, Tyler was able to acquire important skills such as proper pruning techniques and plant/tree and weed identification.

In late 2016, Tyler’s hard work paid off as he was promoted to the position of Crew Leader. This role enabled him to hone his time management skills and gain an in-depth understanding of property trim cycle processes. Tyler also began to master driving trailers and 50+ ft long rigs during this time.

In May 2017, Jeff recognized Tyler’s potential and promoted him to the position of Irrigation Technician. Tyler relished the opportunity to work in irrigation and learn about the intricacies of water hydraulics. He even enjoyed putting together PVC pipes, likening it to playing with Legos!

Tyler obtained certification as a Certified Applicator with the Arizona Department of Agriculture (AZDA) in 2017. By July 2018, Jeff had witnessed Tyler’s growing skill set and passion for the work. He was then promoted to the role of Operations Manager, where at the height of his role he managed a team of 20+ employees, oversaw $2 million+ in annual sales, and handled all aspects of employee review and discipline.

In 2019, Tyler passed the Qualified Applicator exam and became the Qualified Party for the company’s AZDA Pesticide License, overseeing all training and record-keeping.

However, in December 2021, Jeff Burt’s unexpected passing sent shock waves through the family and the company. Tyler stepped up to take over his father’s role as head of the company. Unfortunately, due to his father’s poor planning in terms of training, Tyler encountered several internal hurdles. These challenges, coupled with family issues that arose in the middle of 2022, ultimately led Tyler to step away from the company for the sake of family relations.

In 2022, Tyler founded Elaborate Landscape Management to continue his father’s legacy, which was the knowledge and skills that Jeff had passed on to Tyler during their 7-year partnership.
